In a series of flashbacks one man (Jet Li) accounts the story
of how me defeated three assassins who sought to murder the most
powerful warlord in pre-unified China.
Although this film was made back in 2002 and released in Asia then,
its taken 2 years and an endorsement by Quentin Tarantino, to finally
get the film released in the UK and US (where it went straight to
the top of the US box office charts). Although its filmed in Mandarin
Chinese and subtitled, don't let that put anyone off. Jet Li gives
his usual calm, understated performance that we're come to expect
from films such as Lethal Weapon 4
and The One.
The most expensive Chinese movie ever made, this film follows in
the footsteps of Crouching Tiger,
Hidden Dragon by giving a visually beautiful film with amazingly
choreographed wire work fight sequences. Each version of the flashback
stories is given a unique feel by the use of a vibrant colour (red,
blues, greens etc.), and there are some stunning slow motion visual
effects used in a rain soaked sword fight sequence.
If you enjoyed Crouching Tiger, Hidden
Dragon then you're sure to enjoy this film too.
